The Data Act creates an access framework, not a universal diagnostic database.
The EU regulation governs access to and sharing of certain data generated by connected products and related services. Its application depends on data designed to be retrievable, the user’s role, applicable rights and security safeguards.
What changed
The Data Act has applied since 12 September 2025. It provides, among other things, for user access to certain data and sharing with a third party under the regulation’s conditions.
What this may enable
Official sources identify maintenance and repair among aftermarket services. Depending on the product, accessible data may include usage, state or malfunction information.
What it does not guarantee
The Act does not turn every appliance into a complete diagnostic tool and does not require creation of data that is not stored or retrievable.
